Located in the Historical Downtown Dalton Revitalization Area, The Filling
Station occupies a completely renovated turn-of-the-century gasoline station.
Long a fixture of North Hamilton Street, this station served the motoring needs
of the public from around 1910 until the late 1980's. Under various names and
offering many different brands of petroleum products over the years, the
building personified the growth of the motoring service industry.
|
| From its early days as Dalton's first auto rental agency and
through the bustling pre-war era of motoring, through the post-war boom in
transportation, this same old facility flourished under many names and owners.
Fallen on hard times due to inaccessible location and limited growth options as
more modern stations sprang up in more convenient locations, the building since
has served as a tire store, a warehouse, a sign painter's shop, and various
other temporary uses. Now restored to a glory never experienced in any of its
former lives, The Filling Station is open to serve the dining needs of Dalton's
revitalized downtown and those looking to enjoy food with a taste of nostalgia
thrown in.
